Lab diagnostics exists at the crossroads of chemistry and medicine. Doctors use a variety of physical and chemical tests to identify different diseases. This box gives students the opportunity to perform urinalysis for 4 different "patients."
You will:
-familiarize yourself with special urinalysis containers
-perform density and color tests on artificial urine
-measure the protein and glucose levels of the samples
-identify crystals in the residue
You will learn:
-how glucose and protein tests are used to screen for diabetes
-what data simple physical examinations can provide
-how urinalysis can detect a wide range of disorders and how to manage them
